POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Assistant Director for the Office of Multicultural Affairs

The Office of Multicultural Affairs, an integral part of the Division of Student Affairs, bases its philosophy on inclusion—fostering recognition and respect for the voices of all students. The Office contributes to the University’s academic mission in providing student-centered programs that promote awareness of and respect for cultural diversity and offer opportunities to provoke thought and expand cross-cultural and inter-cultural knowledge. The Office strives to contribute to a community in which all students are empowered to recognize and act on one’s social responsibility in relation to domestic and global issues. The Office also offers advocacy, programming and support systems to encourage students to realize the highest level of their potential, particularly as it pertains to the University’s retention and graduation efforts of underrepresented student populations.

Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Director for Multicultural Affairs, the Assistant Director serves as the main liaison and coordinator of campus wide diversity programming, workshops and class activities based on Office and University missions and assessment of student need. The position is responsible for serving as an administrative liaison for assigned cultural student organizations in advising and providing advocacy and support to student organization’s needs and development. The Assistant Director participates in the overall program planning process that includes the vision, objectives, and procedures to achieve the goals of the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

Qualifications: A Master’s Degree in Student Personnel, Student Development, or Educational Administration or closely related field is required. A minimum of two years beyond degree program is necessary. A minimum of two years of social justice and sensitivity trainer experience is preferred. Demonstrated capability of working with multicultural program environment and knowledge of and experience in cultural student organization advising is expected. The position requires an energy level that will enable the individual to work evening and weekend hours as needed in addition to regular University hours.

Deadline: Preferred deadline is August 20, 2009, with the position remaining open until filled.
