“Empty Bowls” Take a stand in the fight against hunger and homelessness!

Empty Bowls serves as an educational program about hunger and homelessness and as a local fundraiser for [insert organization here]. The idea for Empty Bowls is simple-participants decorate ceramic bowls and purchase the bowl for a good cause. The bowls serve as a reminder that there are always "Empty Bowls" in the world.

Part I: The Creative Prelude!

SPREAD THE WORD! If you belong to a club or organization, get all your members interested in participating in the bowl painting! It is something that not only supports a great cause, but is also FUN, CREATIVE, and RELAXING all in one!

In January, volunteer “artists” will put their talents to work decorating 300 ceramic bisque bowls—instructions, guidance, colorful glazes and brushes will be provided.

Monday–Friday, January 25–January 29, 2010
11:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Elliott University Center Commons

Note: The bowl painting will continue through January 29 unless all of the bowls are painted before that date.

The bowls will then be fired and made ready for the special event. On April 1st, members of the university community will have a chance to “purchase” the unique bowls and enjoy a simple meal together to draw attention to world hunger.

In the Azalea Room in the Elliott University Center to choose your bowl(s) and the Multicultural Resource Center to fill your "empty bowl"

Buying bowls Diners For a minimum donation of $8, you can go to the EUC Azalea Room and select a beautiful hand-painted soup bowl—which you’ll get to keep—and then go down to the Multicultural Resource Center to enjoy a piping-hot bowl of soup. While you dine, the sponsors of this event will use unique approaches to tell you about projects promoting social justice on the UNCG campus, in Greensboro and in surrounding communities.
