LinkUpUNCG is a year-long program sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs for incoming freshmen who apply for and are admitted into the program. Space is limited to 150 students with spots filled on a first-come, first-served basis when the online application process opens in early June.
LinkUp is tailor-made for incoming freshmen who are “first generation” students — those who are the very first in their immediate families to head off for college. It is also recommended for new students who have a strong interest in knowing more about support and resources at UNCG and want to have a few extra days before classes begin to “digest” all the pointers, tips and new information they'll need to be a successful student at UNCG.
LinkUp runs from August to April, beginning with a 3-day Welcome Program August 18-20. Once classes begin, special workshops will be scheduled approximately once a month just for LinkUp participants — three events during fall semester and three events during spring semester. We'll schedule them in late afternoon — 5:00pm to 6:00pm — and provide snacks or a light supper. We'll work around holiday schedules and avoid exam time so you'll be certain to find time to participate.
Absolutely nothing!
There is one exception to the zero cost — anyone who reserves a spot for the 3-day Welcome Program but does not attend all the planned activities may have a $30 charge assessed on their student account unless they cancel their reservation in writing no less than 48 hours before the program begins.
We have loaded this website with everything we think you need to know about LinkUp and how it works so you can be one of the first to sign up. Spend some time clicking through the nav bar and make a note of any question that arises that you can't find an answer for. Then all you have to do is email us your question and you'll get your answer!
A member of the LinkUp student staff would also like to connect with you before you come to campus. Make sure you click on "Tell us a little about YOURSELF" in the nav bar and fill out the quick and easy form so we'll know how to get in touch! The upper classmen on the LinkUp staff can be a great resource for you just as soon as you “link up.”
You'll also have great opportunities to meet us in person and talk more about the program when you visit campus this spring. We'll look forward to seeing you at one of these campus events:
They must participate! Really!
LinkUp is a well-rounded, full-service program that helps to build the confidence and skills of new students at the same time it gives them the practical knowledge they need to feel at home on the UNCG campus. The benefits come to students who fully engage in the activities and utilize the support they are introduced to during LinkUp events.
