Questions in general
- Could you tell me a little more about this program? What should I expect?
- LinkUp opens with a three-day Welcome Program designed to provide you with a low-pressure opportunity to settle in at UNCG a few days before Welcome Weekend programs begin. Participants will get a chance to meet fellow students as well as key faculty and administrators, identify campus resources during information sessions, and seek advice from LinkUp Mentors, a group of UNCG upper-class students who have successfully faced the challenges of adjusting to life at the University. During the school year, LinkUp Mentors stay in touch with LinkUp participants through academic and social events and checking in with participants to make sure they are finding everything they need to be successful.
- Is there a cost to participate in LinkUp?
- No, there is no cost to you to participate in LinkUp — with one possible exception. If you have reserved a spot in the three-day Welcome Program but do not attend all of the scheduled events, your student account may be charged $30.00. The only way to avoid this charge is to cancel your reservation in writing — email to Jeffrey Coleman would be best — at least 48 hours before the Welcome Program opens at 4:00pm on Day One.
- I've read everything on the website and I've talked to some members of the LinkUp staff at Destination UNCG and SOAR. I still want to know more. Can I contact someone directly?
- Sure. You may email Assistant Director Jeffrey Coleman with your questions. You can also find email addresses of the student staff if you go back to the "Meet the LinkUp Staff" page.
Questions about the Welcome Program
- What should I wear when I come to the Welcome Program events?
- The Welcome Program is very casual, especially on Day One when we know you might have been working hard moving into your dorm so just dress comfortably. When you check in, we will give you an official LinkUp t-shirt. We would like for you to wear that on Day Two so we can get a good group photo. You'll also get a LinkUp baseball cap and a LinkUp sling book bag. Wear your cap and carry your bag often — you'll be helping us spread the word about LinkUp around campus!
- Can my parents come to the Welcome Supper?
- Absolutely. We encourage them to join us. The program will included quick facts from some of UNCG's administrators and opportunities for parents to get their questions asked before they leave campus.
Questions about on-campus housing
- The date that Housing and Residence Life has given me to move in my residence hall is after the date that the LinkUp Welcome Program begins. Can I move into my residence hall on the day I check in for the LinkUp Welcome Program?
- Yes, you will be able to move into your residence hall on the day you check in for the LinkUp Welcome Program.
- When the LinkUp Welcome Program ends, will I be allowed to stay on campus until classes begin?
- Yes, you may remain on campus after the LinkUp Welcome Program ends. The LinkUp Welcome Program ends on the first day that Welcome Weekend begins. Welcome Weekend is full of plenty of activities you won't want to miss so you may just want to hang around through the whole weekend.
Questions about the application process
- I have some friends who are coming to UNCG as freshmen in the Fall too. Can I tell them about LinkUp?
- Of course you can. Just make sure to tell them about the deadline for applications and show them the website so they will know everything they need to know.
- I have filled out the online application to participate in LinkUp. When will I find out if I've been accepted?
- You will be notified of your acceptance into LinkUp via email about one week after the application process ends — July 15 or earlier if the 150 spots get filled before that date.
- If I submit my online application for LinkUp before the deadline, am I guaranteed a spot in the program?
- No, LinkUp is limited to 150 participants and registration is handled on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline for application is promoted as “July 15 or until all spots are filled, whichever comes first.” If we fill the spots before the calendar deadline, registration will be closed. Anyone applying after the spots are filled will be put on a waiting list.
- I tried to log on to the online application for LinkUp but my password and username are not working. What should I do?
- You should contact Information Technology Services (ITS) at 336-256-8324 (6-TECH) and have them reset your password and confirm the spelling of your username.
