LinkUp has been a vital part of my first year at UNCG. Even though I was a good student in high school and came to UNCG focused on being a good student here as well, I have taken advantage of a lot of the special academic services on campus. I went to the Student Success Center and got connected with a tutor that I meet with every week. I had my writing skills and study habits "assessed" through the Academic Skills Service. And I met with an academic advisor regularly during the fall semester to make sure I was on the right track.
I was introduced to all these opportunities during the LinkUp Welcome Program! There is a lot of help out there but you have to know where to find it!
I also attended the monthly workshops that LinkUp sponsored “by invitation only” during my first semester. The invitation goes just to those who sign up over the summer for LinkUp! The workshops cover topics that the LinkUp staff knows will be of value to freshmen; the facilitators know their stuff and make the programs fun and interesting. And it's a good time to catch up with friends you met at the Welcome Program that you might not get to see around campus every day.
So I'm proud to say that I successfully passed my first semester with flying colors thanks to what I learned being part of LinkUp. The support from the staff and my mentor helped me make it through. I'm sure I will carry with me the confidence that LinkUp has given me through the next 3 years and become a very successful college student.
