The Office of Multicultural Affairs sponsors an annual Scholars Recognition Program to recognize the scholastic accomplishments of UNCG students of color.
Invitations are issued to eligible students in early spring and those who accept the invitation participate in the ceremony, usually late in April or early May. The audience includes invited, ticketed family members and guests of the honored students who proudly witness the procession of scholars and enjoy a brief program featuring remarks from several of the students and encouraging words from university officials such as the Chancellor or the Provost. After the speakers conclude, the name of each honored student is announced as the student walks across the stage and receives a custom-designed commemorative medallion, a certificate of merit and congratulations from university dignitaries for their academic achievement.
The afternoon concludes with an occasion to socialize with university faculty and representatives of each academic discipline and an opportunity for students to be photographed with their guests and university personnel.
The Cone Ballroom and the Auditorium in the Elliott University Center have been the venues for this program for the past several years during the renovation of the Aycock Auditorium. We are proud to announce that in 2009 the Scholars Recognition Program will return to Aycock. The ambience of the stately Aycock Auditorium will enhance the pomp and pageantry of this occasion.
