Reporting Protocol
IF YOU ARE THE TARGET OF A HATE INCIDENT OR HATE CRIME OR IF YOU SEE AN INCIDENT, please report to University Police by telephone at 336.334.4444 or submit an online report at police.uncg.edu.
What should students or student groups do if they believe they are the victim(s) of a bias-related incident or hate crime?
Regardless of when, where and how it occurs, students and/or student groups who are targets of hate crimes and/or incidents are encouraged to take at least one of the following actions:
- Report the hate incident as soon as possible to the University Police. If medical attention is required, call 334.4444 immediately. University Police will dispatch an officer to the location. If possible, any physical evidence related to the incident should not be touched or disturbed. The officer will document what happened, including where and when the incident occurred, the names of the victims, and names of witnesses, if any. All physical evidence of the incident will be retained and/or the evidence photographed. While it is helpful to know the identity of anyone reporting illegal activity, both the UNCG Police Operator and Webpage offers completely anonymous reporting.
- Report the hate incident to the Dean of Students office located in 141 Mossman Building, and available online at http://studentconduct.uncg.edu. The phone number is 334.5099.
It is important to report any incident that you believe may be criminal and may be motivated by hate or bias. If you are not sure whether what happened to you “counts” as a hate crime/incident, please report it to us anyway. The more information we have, the more we can do to keep this campus safe for everyone.
